4 Tricks to Increase Your Social Media Reach

In 2018, social media is not only a fantastic way for individuals to interact but also an indispensable digital marketing tool. It is scalable, free, and extraordinarily versatile. Social media companies like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube offer vastly different experiences and have their own specific strengths.  The possibilities to engage with those platforms, create content, and connect with customers are almost endless.

However, it can be hard to gain traction on social media. Read on for 4 tricks to increase your social media reach.

 

1.      Post regularly

Nobody is going to follow you if you don’t have any content. That’s simple and intuitive. But taking the next step to post content regularly is just as important. There is a lot of competition on social media and beating your competitors to the punch has value. More than that, regularly posting keeps your brand relevant in the minds of your target consumers.

Furthermore, regular posting will help your posts cut through the algorithms. It used to be that social feeds were completely chronological. But nowadays, many social feeds are powered through a proprietary algorithm that does not show all posts to users. While trying to game the ever-changing algorithms is a losing proposition, some best practices will consistently help your content to be seen. One of those is simply having regular content to be seen.

 

2.      Develop a voice

Just like with any form of advertising, you must develop a voice with your brand. It goes hand-in-hand with your overall reputation. The tricky thing is that social media allows for a wider variety of voices from which to select due to the informality of the platform. Not everything works all the time, too. A lot of brands go for something sillier on social media in today’s social media climate, but that does not always work.

 

3.      Offer value

Social media is very much unlike traditional ads like a billboard, which are seen by anyone and everyone who views it. Social media is instead self-selecting, meaning that people who follow your account do so willingly.

So rather than putting a traditional ad in a place where it is most likely to be seen, on social media you must entice people to follow you. The best way of doing that is offering value through your social media. This is inherently easier for some industries (say, sports or entertainment) than others, but the practice is the same. Make it worthwhile for people to follow you.

Some examples of compelling value are offering discount codes to your followers, hosting an online raffle of sorts to win a product, writing or cross-posting relevant blogs, or being legitimately funny or quirky. To get traction, you need to have a reason for people to follow you in the first place.

 

4.      Interact

It’s easy to get caught up in the various bells and whistles of social media that you can sometimes forget the first word: social. Social media platforms are an inherently communal experience. With no community or socializing, there is no need for the platform. In other words, if nobody is at the party then there’s no point in having a party.

So, interact! Comment, like, retweet. Whether your brand is big or small, social media users appreciate quality discourse. And interacting with others exposes your brand to even more people. Remember, without the social part of social media, it’s just media. And that is a different animal altogether.

 

 

To increase your social media reach, you must actually be social – post, develop a voice, offer value and overall interact! The benefits will be more committed consumers and clients, and a rich social life. Who doesn’t want that?
