Top Tips For Driving Traffic To Your Website

Top Tips for Driving Traffic to Your Website

You have a business website. You have great content. You’ve shared it on your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Despite all that effort, your visitor numbers never seem to change and you’re stumped.

What are some top tips for driving traffic to your website?

Optimize Your Website

If you want increasing and regular traffic vs. traffic that’s sporadic and temporary, you need to learn the art of optimization. Optimization will help you build traffic by increasing your website’s visibility in searches.

We have a detailed guide on optimizing your website, but below are some key tips to keep in mind:

  • Know your customer’s needs – What kind of information do potential client look for? Are they looking for the services you offer, the price of your products or your location and hours? Having this information not only helps your customers, it also encourages the search engine to put your website on the first page of search results, where 90% of people find their information.
  • Know the right words – the key to optimization is not only knowing what people search for, but how they search. Loading your website with industry-specific jargon is great if your only customers are businesses within that industry, but that jargon is bound to be lost on casual customers who want to know about a specific service or product. Figuring out right terms not only gets customers to your website, it lets search engines know that your business is relevant to these terms, putting your business closer to that coveted first page of results.
  • Optimize Everything – Everything on your website, from the body text of a post to the headlines, URLs, images and backlinks, should be optimized, it’s not enough to use the keywords in a single post
  • Have Your Website Audited – A website audit will help you pinpoint exactly what needs to tweaked—be it images, posts, or links—in order for your traffic numbers to rise

Create Quality Content

It’s not enough for your website’s content to be optimized; it also needs to be good. Good content, however, will vary from business to business based on factors like consumer base and location. Here are some tips to help you think up quality content for your website.

  • Diversify your content – “Content” has generally been used to mean written text, but there’s no need to set limits. Use all sorts of content! Images and videos will aid optimization and are more likely to be shared on social media than text alone. Think outside the box: what do your customers like to see, and what’s the best way to present it to them?
  • Seek Out Contributors – Are you scratching your head trying to come up with new, varied content? There’s no need for your business to go it alone. Have guests contribute content, whatever it might be. You can even curate that content yourself via social media by having your customers post content as part of a campaign or contest.
  • Be mobile – More and more searches are being conducted by phone every day. It’s not enough for customers to be able to view your website on desktop—they must also be able to view it on a tablet or phone screen. Don’t overcomplicate your website with things that will be difficult to navigate on a phone. Keep it simple—or develop a separate mobile version of your website.

Having a website with a steady flow of traffic is just one key to marketing a successful business online. You can learn about others by reading this post on advertising and this post about social media.
